2026 Speaker

Dan Carter

The Markham Prayer Breakfast is pleased to welcome Dan Carter, Mayor of Oshawa, as our 2026 guest speaker.

Dan Carter brings a remarkable story of perseverance, transformation, and hope. For 17 years, he battled addiction while also living with severe dyslexia that left him unable to read. Through courage, determination, and the support of family, he rebuilt his life and went on to serve his community in extraordinary ways.

Before entering public office, Dan built a successful career in broadcasting and communications. Today, as Mayor of Oshawa, he is widely respected for his compassionate leadership and his commitment to addressing some of the most pressing challenges facing communities today, including homelessness, addiction, and economic recovery.

Dan’s story has drawn international attention. In 2023, The New York Times profiled his life and leadership in its prestigious “Saturday Profile” series, and later named the piece one of its “12 Favourite Saturday Profiles of the Year.

What makes Dan Carter’s story especially compelling is not simply what he has overcome, but how he has turned personal struggle into public service. His life is a powerful witness to resilience, redemption, and the enduring dignity of every person.

Join us in 2026 as we welcome Dan Carter to the Markham Prayer Breakfast for what promises to be an inspiring and meaningful morning.
